Carmyn's Notes
Summer grilling season is here, and this quick and easy homemade barbecue sauce hits that perfect sweet-and-savory balance!
It’s not only super easy to make, but also way healthier (and cheaper!) than the store-bought stuff loaded with corn syrup, preservatives, and artificial flavors.
Just toss everything into a pot, let it simmer for 8-10 minutes until it thickens (stirring occasionally), and you’re done!
I especially love using it for slow cooker barbecue chicken. So good!
Enjoy! xx
Ingredients & Substitutions

- Main Ingredients: Grab some balsamic vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. No Dijon? Regular mustard or spicy brown mustard works just as well! You can also use granulated sugar in place of brown sugar.
- Seasonings: You’ll need onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. If you like a kick of heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
How to Make Homemade BBQ Sauce
Add the ingredients to a large saucepan and whisk over medium heat until the mixture begins to simmer. Continue to cook for 8-10 minutes until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.

Allow the sauce to cool and transfer it to a storage container with a lid.
Serve this delicious BBQ sauce on burgers, pizza, chicken, or shrimp. We also love to use it in our slow cooker BBQ chicken recipe.
How to Store
- Store homemade BBQ sauce in a sealed jar and store in the fridge for up to two weeks.
