Slow Cooker Calico Beans
These slow cooker calico beans are loaded with sweet and smoky flavor and get rave reviews from everyone that tries them!
Beef, bacon and three types of beans are slow cooked so that the flavors meld together perfectly. This is a great meal for parties, potlucks and BBQs!

One of the things we love about slow cooker calico beans is that just like our classic pot roast, slow cooker chili or white beans and ham, this a one pot meal. If you are looking for a crock-pot meal that you can set and forget, this is it.
Brown the ground beef and bacon and then throw everything in your slow cooker. A few hours later dinner is ready!
Serve with a side of stoneground skillet cornbread or sourdough dinner rolls for a real treat.

Since I live alone and am a type 2 diabetic, I cut this recipe in half and made it in my 3.5 qt slowcooker. I followed the directions as written, except that I fried the bacon first, and then fried the ground beef in the drippings.
* I seasoned the meat with garlic powder and with onion powder.
(I omitted fresh onions)
I used:
1 15 oz. can of no sugar added baked beans( such as Bushes)
1 15 oz. can of tri blend beans ( such as Wild Harvest organic beans....red kidney, pinto, & black bean blend)
.5 lb ground beef
.5 lb bacon
I cut the sauce ingredients in half.
*I used brown sugar blend ( such as splenda brown sugar blend)
*I didn't add salt, but you could salt it to taste.
I cooked it on low for 2 hours
I loved it!
Since this freezes, I'll make a full batch next time!
Isn't sauteing the ground beef and the bacon at the same time..together, The same thing as sauteing the beef in the bacon grease.?

I loved the recipe but I only put 1 1b bacon in and doubled the rest of ingredients for a crock pot full!
The only thing I am going to try next time is frying the bacon separately so I can have crispy bacon bits.
So then I would fry the hamburger in the bacon grease and drain.
But it was a wonderful best recipe flavored recipe and very easy!!
